WALLER COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF) – A Houston-area woman is accused of mailing explosive packages to high ranking government officials. Authorities say 46-year-old Julia Poff sent packages containing explosives to President Barack Obama, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, and Social Security Commissioner Carolyn Colvin in October of 2016. None of the packages ever exploded, but officials say the only reason a box sent to Gov. Abbott did not detonate is because he opened it incorrectly. Federal investigators say they traced her back to the packages by shipping labels, and cat hair found in one of the boxes. She says she was upset with Governor Abbott for not receiving support from her ex-husband. Poff now faces multiple federal charges, including Injurious Articles as Nonmailable and Transportation of Explosives with the Intent to Kill and Injure.
