California trio jailed on drug-trafficking charges in north Alabama

More than 20 pounds of marijuana and $11,000 were seized from three California residents who face drug-trafficking charges in north Alabama, authorities said.

Somlak Getty, 37, Teddy Asiamah, 40, and Ade Karre, 32, are held in the Madison County jail with bail set at $150,000 each, records show.

The suspects were arrested Friday outside Walmart at 2580 U.S. 72 in Huntsville, police said. The arrests stemmed from an undercover investigation by the local drug task force, said Huntsville police Lt. Michael Johnson.

Agents seized about 21.8 pounds of marijuana and $11,370 in cash, Johnson said in a news release.

Johnson said after the trio was arrested in Huntsville, agents leaned that someone connected to the suspects had been alerted and told to remove additional marijuana from a hotel room in Macon, Georgia.

"Authorities in that jurisdiction were immediately notified and able to execute a search warrant seizing an additional 7 pounds of marijuana," Johnson said.
