Former President Barack Obama will reportedly start campaigning for members of the Democratic Party ahead of the 2018 midterm elections, The Hill reports.

Since leaving office last year, Obama has remained relatively silent, but according to reports, the politician and nation leader will start to endorse down-ballot candidates. He will also make appearances at fundraisers and campaign for Democrats, according to reports.

“He’s going to be out there for candidates, he’ll be out there helping us in meaningful ways, not just in fundraising,” Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez told Politico.

Perez, along with Eric Holder, who served as the former president’s attorney general from 2009 until 2015, have reportedly discussed plans with Obama regarding the campaigning.

“The guy was a state senator in ’04, and he was president of the United States four years later,” Perez said. “He knows something about winning elections and building a brand.”

Politico reported that Obama is also said to being activating his 15,000-person campaign alumni association. The alumni network is also described as an advocacy network.

The appearances are not expected to begin until the fall, but once they do, the former commander in chief will be given direction from the National Democratic Redistricting Committee—Obama’s redistricting initiative—in terms of appearances and endorsements.

Although Obama has kept a relatively low profile since leaving the White House, there’s been news regarding the construction of the Barack Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.

The center, which will house the Barack Obama Presidential Library, will be constructed in the city’s Jackson Park neighborhood, and the architect behind the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C., will lead the planning of the library’s exhibits, the Obama Foundation announced last month.

Ralph Appelbaum Associates will be in charge of a team that includes several Chicago-based firms that will design the historic building’s exhibition spaces.

The New York-based firm’s work is among the most well-known in the country, including the National Museum of African American History and Culture and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, also in D.C.
