Missael Rodriguez scored two goals and Wallis Lapsley made three saves in the penalty shootout to lift Union Omaha to a 3-2 win over Northern Colorado in a Jagermeister Cup match Wednesday at Werner Park.
Lapsley made six saves in regulation to send the match to a shootout to determine which team would get the extra point each team’s opening match of the league cup.
In the shootout, he stopped the first two Northern Colorado shots, while Zeiko Lewis and Marko Milanese each scored for Omaha to go ahead 2-0. Northern Colorado made its next two attempts and Omaha got a make from Mark Bronnik to lead 3-2 going into the final attempt.
Lapsley stopped Jake Keegan’s shot to close out the win for Omaha.
Union Omaha took a 2-1 lead into halftime after Rodriguez scored a pair in the late stages of the first half. He tied the match at 1-all in the 44th minute and the put Omaha ahead with a goal in the first minute of stoppage time before the half.
Omaha returns to action Saturday when it hosts South Georgia in a USL League One match.
