Ghana is a true source of inspiration and self-elevation. Due to its political stability and improving economic conditions, Ghana has been visited and enjoyed by many political and cultural dignitaries including Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Prince Charles, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Mohammed Ali, Dr. Maya Angelou, W.E.B DuBois, Anthony Bourdain, Colin Kaepernick, John Legend, and Ed Sheeran. In fact, Ghana is an inspiration for Ed Sheeran’s “Bibia Be Ye Ye”, one of the songs on his last album “Divide”.

Nzema is a wonderful geographic area in the Western Region of Ghana. It is a place for business, spiritual, and cultural discovery. The Nzema area is divided into three districts: Nzema East (Evalue), Central Nzema (Ellembelle) and Nzema West (Jomoro).

Nzema, the birth place of legends, is simply Ghana’s BEST KEPT SECRET! It is a perfect destination for a trip that will quench your cultural thirst. In Nzema, you can learn a lot about Ghana’s economic opportunities and have a chance to feast your eyes on abundant and rich cultural heritage. The people of Nzema are incredibly amiable, welcoming you as if you are in your home away from home.

The people of Nzema carry a unique heritage. Not only do they produce the greatest pearls century after century, but the visions and civic mindedness of this tribe led to the liberation of the entire continent of Africa. In 1727, Anton Amo, an Nzema, became the first black person to graduate from an European University. In 1957, Kwame Nkrumah, an Nzema, led Ghana's struggle for independence from the British, eventually becoming the first President of Ghana.

Nzema has a stable, growing economy housing Ghana’s only gas plant and offshore drilling. Other economic sectors including gold mines, quarries, rubber, cocoa, and coconut plantations which are in abundance in Nzema. Of course, given the beautiful ocean of the Nzema region, fishing is also an important industry in this part of the country.

In 2012, CNN travel listed the beaches in Nzema in the top 25 beaches in Africa. According to CNN, beaches in Nzema have some of the "beautiful sandy arc (edged by) tall, soaring coconut trees".

You can lodge at the beautiful Maaha Beach Resort, a paradise on Earth hotel that gets you closer to the Atlantic Ocean. Maaha is located between Anokyi and Baku in the Ellembelle District. Other incredible lodging places include the luxurious Karela Beach Hotel located at Beyin, Tenak Beach Hotel, Axim Beach Hotel, and Ankobra Beach Hotel.

There are plenty of adventures to take in the Nzema region like boating trips, nature walks, and ecotourism hikes. Rain boots and walking gear are recommended for ecotourism hikes. Nzulezo, the village on stilts, and Maaha village, an exotic and unique restaurant, sitting between the Atlantic ocean and the Amanzule river are reached only by boat are sights that cannot be missed.

Nzema, bordering Ivory Coast, is approximately a 90-minute trip (30 minute flight and an hour drive) from Ghana’s capital city, Accra. It is also the home of Karela and Nzema Kotoko football clubs.
